Barbara Gay McClelland passed away June 9, 2012 at Banner Churchill Hospital surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born in Oklahoma, on October 7, 1937 to Ted and Bessie Cecil, she spent her childhood traveling the south while her parents worked on different farms. In March 1956, she married Bert McElvain and they had five children whom she raised with a stern hand and a big heart. She and Bert moved from Alabama to Oregon and spent many years working their dairy. In 1978, she married Ray McClelland and, after a brief stop in Texas, settled in Nevada; first in Battle Mountain and later in Fallon. She loved to be with and around people, always holding jobs where she could “visit” with the public. She enjoyed her days as a waitress and blackjack dealer at the Owl Club in Battle Mountain. When they moved to Fallon, she spent her days in her favorite role of caring for her grandchildren and the children of family friends. Her last job was as a slot cashier at Safeway. Over the course of her busy life, she touched many lives with her big smile, contagious laugh, and little bits of advice.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ray McClelland, parents Ted and Bessie Cecil, brothers Jude and Shelby Cecil, and great-granddaughter Hailei Keller. She is survived by her children: Bert (Ila) McElvain, Ted (Angie) McElvain, Kim (Richard) Paladini, Bobbie McElvain, Rudy (Amy) McElvain; her grandchildren: Tim McElvain, Theresa (Dan) Birchfield, Shelby McElvain, Randy McClelland, Celestia (Todd) Keller, Nathan (Deanna) Rogne, Kyle McClelland, Jordan West, Dylan McElvain, Brock McElvain, Lacie McElvain, and Chase McElvain; and her great-grandchildren: Brylee McClelland, Brooke Fillippini, Berklee McClelland, Bryeanna McClelland and Colbie Keller; siblings: Dub (Suzie) Cecil, Sally (Bob) Mercer, and Letha Kildew; sister-in-law Norma Cecil, as well as her stepchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Barbara’s name to your charity of choice.
