A Celebration of Life service will be held for Dorthey Frances Harrelson on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at The Gardens Chapel in Fallon. Dorthey passed away of a stroke on April 15 in San Francisco, CA. She was ninety-one years old. Dorthey had lived for many years in Fallon before she went to live with her daughter in San Francisco. She is survived by her five children and their families: Ronald Kaiser of Bemidji, MN, Tim Kaiser of Bemidji, MN, Norbert Kaiser of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Rose Ann Eyester of Fallon, NV, and Linda Guitron of San Francisco, CA. Another son, Larry Kaiser, passed away at age sixteen. She has eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Dorthey was born in Cumberland, WI on December 2, 1920. She was an only child. She married Norbert Kaiser in 1940 and they moved to Alaska in the 1950s. Alaska was their home for many years as they raised their growing family. They were part of a lively social group whose activities included bowling, fishing, picnicking, and hosting poker parties. Playing poker became a favorite pastime of Dorthey’s, and she enjoyed it up until her final days.
When her children were grown, Dorthey worked as a manager of an apartment complex and hotel. During this period she married and divorced Ron Harrelson. Dorthey spent many happy years living in the senior citizen apartments in Fallon, socializing with her friends and daughter, Rose Ann. She enjoyed going on gambling trips and participated in many other senior activities.
In August 2009 Dorthey moved to San Francisco to live with her daughter, Linda. Although she didn’t like the colder weather, she enjoyed spending time with her family in the area. Last year, friends and family gathered in San Francisco to help Dorthey celebrate her 90th birthday with a big party.
Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home, 2949 Austin Highway, Fallon, NV 89406; telephone 775-423-8928.
